My Approach

Darya Gilbert, RCC

I approach counselling from a Client-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Sex-Positive, and Attachment-Based perspective using modalities such as  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Whether you are an individual feeling stuck or a couple looking to improve communication, strengthen your connection, or resolve conflict, I am here for you. Nothing about your identity, desires, or experiences is “too much” or “not enough” here.

I believe you already have the capacity and agency it takes to make your own decisions and reach your goals. Sometimes we just need a safe space to explore, a neutral perspective, and unconditional acceptance of another to connect the dots, which is what I am here for. When appropriate, I can offer psychoeducation and practical tools to help you reach the goals you set for yourself. In our sessions, we can address the impact of difficult experiences from your

past and define what healing means to you. Together, we will create a space where your nervous system can soften, where long-silenced parts of you can finally be heard, and where your consent, agency, and authenticity are honoured.

Territory Acknowledgement

As a first-generation settler from Belarus, I am privileged to live and practice on the traditional,

ancestral, and unceded territories of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen), qiqéyt (Qayqayt), and Stó:lō (Sto:lo) Peoples.

I am grateful for their continued care for these lands, waters, skies, and all that is above and below.

As a mental health care professional, I recognize the impact of systemic racism within institutions

and that counsellors have the responsibility and power to create culturally safe and appropriate environments of care

I commit to continued learning about the devastating colonial practices in psychotherapy and healthcare

and doing my part in decolonizing the field.
